Snegurochka

Little Snegurochka, the Snow Maiden, lived in the forest with Father Frost and the fairy-folk. She went to the village to play with the human girls at jumping over a small fire, as is custom on St. Johns Day, but when Snegurochka’s turn came she turned into steam and became a small cloud.

Other tales tell of how she fell in love with a shepherd-boy, but the warming of her heart caused her body to melt into a puddle.
