Modwenna tames a wolf

Modwen, an Irish noblewoman by birth, traveled to England and became a Nun, eventually founding Burton Abbey in Staffordshire. Among the many miraculous deeds attributed to her, she is said to have tamed a ferocious wolf who was terrorizing a local village and devouring her cattle. Following the holy woman’s intervention, the wolf would instead protect the cattle, standing guard over their pastures.
