Ragnar Loðbrok in the snake-pit of Ælla

Ragnar Loðbrok, the fierce viking king and slayer of dragons, sought in his old age to bring all of England under his dominion. His aims were thwarted, however, by the forces of King Ælla of Northumbria who captured the old, hairy-breeched King and threw him into a pit of snakes within which he died.
